Costume jewelry is a great way to update your wardrobe and it's relatively inexpensive.
Like clothing, there are some general guidelines to ensure you pick styles and sizes that best suit your body type. But, don't get too hung up on "rules." If you love something...buy it! With the right attitude you can pull anything off. And, big, chunky costume jewelry is about having fun and not taking yourself too serious.
Things to consider:
Your Body Style If you're petite or slender, big, bulky pieces will typically make you look even smaller. Similarly, if you're full figured, wearing delicate chains and thin rings makes you look larger. It's all about chosing proportionate pieces. That's not to say you can't wear these accessories...curvy ladies can wear several thin chains together as a cluster to give them more weight and a petite woman can wear that wide cuff bracelet if it's the only thing on her arms and hands.
The Shape of Your Face Round and heart shape faces look lovely with long dangling earrings and enhance the cheekbones of a long or oval face with chunkier pieces. The general rule of thumb with accessories, including glasses, is to choose pieces that are the opposite shape of your face.
Color Along with the weight and shape of the piece, you need to consider the color. Gold looks great on people with olive or tan skin while silver looks best on pale and pinkish undertones. Gemstones and beads should compliment your skin tone, eye and hair color. Again, if you find a piece that polishes your outfit but, is not your perfect match, opt for completing your outfit. It will speak louder than not having your ideal metal, size, etc.
