Eight or so years ago I read "The Perricone Promise" by Nicholas Perricone, M.D. The book suggests that cellular inflammation is the root of disease and aging. And, by choosing the right foods we can combat inflammation and ultimately live longer and look younger.
One of the "superfoods" Dr. Perricone recommends is the acai berry. I immediately ran down to Wild Oats to find this mysterious and powerful berry. I had half the staff running around the store inquiring and searching for this strange acai berry. After an exhaustive search we gave up since no one had heard about this berry that I had obviously made up. Nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if even Pepsi had an acai flavor!
So, I'm sure you can tell by my youthful appearance, I've been following Dr. Perricone's recommendations to a tee! You'd never guess I'll be 70 next month!
Okay, all kidding aside...the book did have quite an impact on me. I think about my food choices differently and try to select a full range of rainbow vegetables. (I still haven't found the section in the book that talks about the benefits of ice cream though.)
Eating healthy and the benefits of good foods has always interested me so, I'm really looking forward to our evening with Dr. Kotzur and I hope you'll join us.
