First, pull your hair back in a ponytail or headband so you can get a good look at the shape of your
face.
You'll find your face will generally fall into one of five shape catagories (similar to body types):
round, oval, heart, triangular or
rectangular.
Round: The general rule of thumb is to pick a frame that is the opposite of your face shape so, a
round face looks best in square, rectangle or boxy frames. Remember not to go too large
however. Try to keep your frames proportionate to your face.
Oval: Or egg-shaped are balanced on top and bottom and can generally support any type of
frame. Start with a rectangular shape for the optimal compliment then add your own personal
taste to arrive at a style you love.
Heart: Balance a heart-shaped face with frames that angle downward. Aviator glasses are perfect
for heart shaped faces. Again, start there, use that shape as your guide and select according to
your personal taste.
Triangular: This shape face has a very strong jaw line. To soften the jaw and balance your face,
choose a round shape frame. Think of a horizontal 8 when looking for glasses.
Rectangular: Balance a long, thin face with larger frames in round or cat's eye shapes. Frames
that are thick, have bold color or embellishment near the sides will also broaden your face.
Remember to always choose frames that are proportionate to the size of your head. Never select
glasses that are wider than the widest part of your face. And, avoid glasses that appear to
squeeze your face or temples.
Make sure your eyes are positioned in the middle of the lens. If your eyes are close-set, avoid large
frames. And, your eyebrows should align with the top bar of your glasses.
